Workshop run by Stitching and Beyond in Tasmania

A 3-day workshop that invites participants to explore the full potential of transfer dyes and their versatility. These dyes are painted onto paper and then heat transferred to polyester fabric.

Experiments with the dye will encourage accidental patterning that will lead to the creation of talismanic and totemic forms.  These will be further embellished with a range of free-machine embroidery techniques including my trademark long-stitch technique.

Dates: 15th - 17th March 2024, 9.30am to 4.30pm

Location: Whitewater Room,

Kingborough Community Hub

7 Goshawk Way

Kingston, Tasmania, 7050

Log into the Stitchine and Beyond Tasmania website to apply to attend this class. Spaces are still available. .

Finalist:

Australian Fibre Arts Award 2023s 2023

I'm excited to be included in this book which will be released in hardcover on November 28, 2023 and will be available on Amazon.

"Through personal interviews and galleries of bird-related fabric artwork, this book celebrates birds and the artists that have been inspired and moved by them.

Escape into an unexpected world of avian fiber art. This collection—brought together by Martha Sielman, executive director of Studio Art Quilt Associates, Inc. (SAQA)—tells how artists live creatively and how birds fit into their lives and inspire them. Bird lovers, needlecrafters, quilters, and other crafters of all ages will be delighted by this book with gorgeous images of avian art on and with fabric and other materials.

Interviews with and quotes from more than 100 of these artists give "live creatively" advice and inside information about the gorgeous bird-inspired art that they create

More than 200 master crafters—quilters, embroiderers, and other fabric artists—from 15 countries on six continents from different backgrounds and experiences share their love of birds and the inspiration they find in them

Includes photographic galleries of avian art and crafts sorted by bird types, including birds like finches, gulls, owls, woodland birds, birds of prey, and many more

More than 500 full-color images

Readers can curl up in their favorite chairs and enjoy the best of "bird stitchery." Or they can share it with the bird lovers in their life!"

Thrilled to be one of the panelists interviewed by Martha Sielman alongside Kathryn Harmer Fox, (South Africa) and Angela Knapp from the UK. All three artists are featured in Martha's book "Stitched Journeys with Birds".

SAQA Online MINI CONFERENCE

US Easter time July 14 & 15

Australian Eastern time:15 & 16 July

We've taken the best of our online conferences and condensed them into a smaller two-day mini-event. Enjoy fantastic presentations and make connections with other attendees. Hear from artists from all over the world about how they are inspired by their location and travels. This virtual mini-conference will also include opportunities to meet and network with artists worldwide.

Keynote speaker Carolyn Crump uses art quilts to tell provocative stories that defy common boundaries. Crump views her art as an expression of insight, strength, and love. Get to know her through her talk, "The Many Facets of Carolyn Crump."

Travel to Yoko Sekita's rich interior world. Interviewed by Naomi Ichikawa, Sekita showcases complex imagined and autobiographical scenes. Images from Japanese culture, Sekita's travels, and children's literature are hidden in the details of her work. The interview is a treasure hunt through these stories, told from the perspective of a former manga artist.

Join us for panel presentations on artist residencies, SAQA Global Exhibition Aviary, and international artist group 20 Perspectives. Plus, hear more from United Kingdom artist Samantha Boot and her "Palette of Place."

Participate in an art postcard exchange with other attendees.

So please join us for this unforgettable two-day event! Since it's all virtual, you can participate from anywhere. Plus, since everything is recorded, you can watch on your schedule if you can't join us live.
